Leveraging Big Data to Solve Global Healthcare Issues

HMS is the lead U.S. partner of the newly launched Digital Health CRC (Cooperative Research Centre) – a coalition of businesses, government and universities joining together to use big data to unlock new ways to deliver better patient outcomes and control rising healthcare costs.

The coalition will perform analytics-based research using paid claims data to help tackle some of healthcare’s biggest challenges. The first research project, to be conducted by Stanford University students, will tackle the opioid crisis. The second research project, to be conducted by SMU (Southern Methodist University) students, will focus on hospital readmissions.

About Digital Health CRC

In April 2018, the Australian Government announced its support for – and agreed to contribute funding to – the Digital Health CRC. The Government’s grant, covering a seven-year period, came into effect in July 2018. The Digital Health CRC is the largest digital health research cooperative in the world, with funding from government, universities and businesses totaling over $160m. Our mission is to develop a unique, multidisciplinary, collaborative taskforce of research, clinical, industry, government and educational organizations to focus research and development in the healthcare space – by combining individual and collective expertise with healthcare data, information and telecommunication technologies. Over 80 organizations, including health funds, health technology providers and 16 universities, have joined this research and development consortium. Find out more about the Digital Health CRC at www.digitalhealthcrc.com, and follow us on Twitter at @digihealthcrc, Facebook at @digitalhealthcrc, and LinkedIn.
